Keith MacKenzie

keithWelcome and thank you for visiting our website. I am Keith MacKenzie, the owner and Managing Broker for Chinook Business Brokers Ltd. Chinook Business Brokers was founded in 2011 and since then has represented a multitude of clients in the purchase and sale of their businesses. I strive to learn from each transaction we assist with and then apply those learnings to each subsequent transaction.

I founded Chinook because I loved small business and wanted to help business owners successfully transition to the next stage of their life. Since I started life as a business broker, I’ve become even more enamoured of the entrepreneurs who work so hard to make their businesses successful. Business Owners truly are a breed apart and I’m always grateful when a client affords me the opportunity to help with a transaction.

I started my first company when I was 18 years old. Since then I’ve been involved as a principal or manager in at least a dozen more. After selling my last start-up to a multi-national drilling contractor, my wife, three children, and I decided to make a major life change. We moved from high paced Calgary to the gentler confines of Vancouver Island where I attended Royal Roads University in the Executive MBA program. I used my final project to focus on exploring the Succession Pathways available to business owners on Vancouver Island. I use the results of that research on a daily basis as I work creatively with buyer and sellers to structure traditional and non-traditional transactions. During my time at RRU I was the Entrepreneur in Residence and I’m still active as a panelist and mentor for students in RRU’s Bachelor of Commerce program.

 

Mike Lenz

Mike is a successful entrepreneur and broadly engaged human being. Mike founded 2 companies and purchased 3 more before starting work as a business broker. Now in his tenth year as a business intermediary and coach, Mike goes to work excited with the opportunity to help people see their dreams become reality; either by buying a business; working with owners to make their businesses easier to run and more profitable; or capitalizing on years of hard work by selling the business they have built.

Mike brings his record of entrepreneurial success to his work as a business intermediary and business coach. Mike built his printing company in Toronto from a tiny shop with antiquated equipment doing a few hundred thousand in annual revenue to a dynamic, modern operation with sales of over $5,000,000 and a staff of 25 in his 10 years at the helm. Well versed from marketing to administration, Mike has successfully navigated his clients to dozens of successful transactions over the years. Mike also lends his expertise in coaching with small business owners helping them analyze operations, evaluate value drivers and developing and implementing business plans for reasons from improved performance and ease of management to the securing of financing for business growth.

Mike is a person of high ideals and ethical grounding, a lover of nature, sport, music, literature and comedy in any order they may present themselves. Mike has been certified as a business intermediary, a business analyst and a business planner. Mike looks forward to bring his experience, training, insight, wisdom and passion to service of his clients.

 

Darrel Degelman

Darrel is the newest member of the Chinook Team. He started his career out of university in the investment industry working in various roles with each of the big 5 banks.  During this time, he completed the following designations; CFP, PFP, FMA, CIM, & FCSI.  In 2006, alongside this career he and his wife Carmen bought their first business, a self-storage facility in Brandon, and ran it in conjunction with his career at the bank.  In 2010, he hung up his hat in the world of finance to become a full-time entrepreneur, purchasing a cleaning company.  Originally the company had 6 staff construction cleaning homes for 8 of Calgary’s home builders.  4 years later they sold this business with a staff of 68 servicing 32 homebuilders.  Upon selling this business they felt it was time for a move with their family to the warmer climate of Vancouver Island as both their boys are avid soccer players.

 

He has since purchased and sold businesses on the island, and has truly come to appreciate the personal satisfaction that comes with nurturing something until it flourishes.  By joining Chinook Business Brokers, he hopes to utilize his background in estate and succession planning, coupled with his own experience owning and operating a variety of different businesses, to help either purchaser or vendor in achieving their dreams.
